1. Our program in Adult and Community Education has a specialty in educational gerontology.
2. NCSU has a special continuing education program ("Encore") designed for individuals 55 and older.
3. Some faculty in our School of Design have interests in designing environments for special needs individuals, including elderly. Our graduate program is in lifespan development, and students choose to specialize in specific context areas (cognitive, social, applied) and age groups (e.g. children, old age). Other nondevelopment psychology are currently conducting research in areas associated with work and human factors, including issues related to employment and retirement and to environmental navigation.

In conjunction with the Institute on Aging, practica and internships are available in human services planning and assessment, program administration, research and evaluation, counseling and direct services, and longterm care.
In a recent internship, for example, the student was employed at the Oregon Geriatric Education Center where she conducted a survey of geriatric education needs of rural health care provides in Oregon.

Gerontological activities are coordinated by the Institute of Gerontology. Students actively participate in research, conference presentations, and professional societies. Faculty mentors in psychology, and other disciplines, have joint appointments or faculty associate status with the Institute of Gerontology
